About Dr. Rucha

I am a naturopathic doctor practicing in Ottawa. While completing my undergraduate degree I was first introduced to the concept of food as medicine and learned about the profound effects that lifestyle and diet have on human health. Naturopathic medicine perfectly combined my love of using diet, exercise and lifestyle changes to prevent and treat disease, while still including additional treatment modalities that have powerful effects on combating disease and optimizing health. I would consider myself to have a foundational approach to healing. I put a lot of focus on laying a strong foundation on which to build a healthy life. This is accomplished by finding and treating the root cause of disease, instead of simply managing symptoms. I practice with the concept of docere, meaning ‘doctor as teacher’. I empower my patients to take ownership and control of their own health journey, allowing them to feel involved in the decision making around their wellness. When I am not working, you can most often find me riding my beautiful horses Fargo and Mezzo, playing the flute and piano, and on snowy winter days hitting the slopes on my snowboard.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

I graduated from the 4-year Doctor of Naturopathy program from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine after completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences (with a Minor in Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences) from the University of Guelph. I completed internships at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, the Brampton Naturopathic Teaching Clinic, as well as the Sherbourne Health Center, where I gained experience working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, abilities, and financial standings, all with their own individual health goals.

About Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is primary healthcare that integrates modern scientific diagnosis and treatment with the art of traditional healing. It follows the philosophy that the body has an inherent ability to heal itself once obstacles that impede health are removed. Naturopathic doctors understand that the mental, emotional, and physical body communicate and influence each other. Therefore, every individual is treated as a whole person, and their mental, emotional, and physical states are concurrently addressed in order to get to the root cause of their health concerns. Identifying the root cause allows for long-term healing that is more sustainable than simply managing symptoms.  Naturopathic medicine is considered an art because it involves treating people, not disease. Since no two people are alike, there isn’t simply one treatment approach that will work for everybody. Your health care should be as unique as you are, so every treatment plan I create is tailored specifically for the individuals receiving them.

Services

  • Clinical Nutrition

Using food as medicine to optimize your health and combat disease, and using macro- and micronutrient supplementation to complement and enhance the effects of diet. Clinical nutrition is the foundation of naturopathic medicine, drawing a parallel between how the dietary choices that you make directly affect your health status, anywhere from hormone regulation to optimization of sleep to the management of autoimmune conditions.

  • Botanical Medicine

Calling upon the healing and nourishing nature of medicinal plants to support your mind, body, and spirit in working synergistically. Plants are a powerful form of traditional healing that have since then been supported by modern scientific research. Naturopathic doctors can use whole plants or plant constituents in the form of herbal tinctures, teas, and capsules.

  • Lifestyle Counselling

From stress management to the management of depression, anxiety, and negative beliefs about yourself, I am trained to help! I am here to listen and provide you with a safe, judgment-free space to work with you and find solutions for your mental and emotional concerns.

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)/Acupuncture

TCM is a form of ancient medicine built on a foundation of more than 2,500 years of Chinese medical practices. It includes various forms of herbal medicines, acupuncture, and dietary therapy rooted in Chinese energetic healing. It is still widely used in China and has increasingly gained recognition worldwide. Naturopathic doctors are trained to provide evidence-based TCM interventions that allow for a holistic approach to healthcare.

  • Homeopathic Medicine

A form of energetic medicine that uses minute doses of substances to support the body’s innate healing mechanisms.

  • Physical Medicine and Hydrotherapy

This includes exercise prescriptions, naturopathic manipulation of the body, using the therapeutic properties of water in the form of heat and ice to support circulation, detoxification, and to decrease inflammation, as well as using cupping and massage.

  • Diagnostic Exams and Laboratory Testing

Every patient will receive a focused investigative physical exam in order to correctly assess their health status, and a requisition for lab testing if deemed necessary.

  • Integrative care

I am happy to work alongside and correspond with your other healthcare providers so you are receiving the most holistic, integrative care possible! The treatments I prescribe will be carefully researched so that they are not interacting with your current medications.

  • Facial Rejuvenation and Cosmetic Acupuncture

Facial rejuvenation and cosmetic acupuncture is an effective non-surgical, non-toxic method of reducing signs of aging and improving the quality and tone of the skin on the face and neck. Based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is a rejuvenation and revitalization process that is designed to help you look and feel younger and more radiant! It simultaneously treats the surface of the face and the underlying processes involved with aging. The results are long-lasting and usually noticeable after 5 or 6 treatments.
